The Jackson Fire Escape
The Jackson Fire Escape
Taken in 2013. I took a former lover on a little Chinatown walk, was about to photograph her in a cute little alley when I saw this view behind me. The SROs in Chinatown, on top of being outrageously overpriced (a 30 square ft room with shared shower and bathroom could cost as much as $900/month), also lacked ability to store basic necessities like food and clothing, resulting in a fascinating subculture of smoked and cured meats on windows and balconies.
